Pack animals—namely camels in Mauritania—are used to carry baggage and supplies. You trek on foot with a small backpack containing only the essentials you'll need for the day.

In Mauritania, the typical schedule unfolds as follows:

Wake with the dawn. At breakfast, each participant brings their travel bag and sleeping mat so the camel handlers can quickly distribute the loads and saddle the animals.

Departure between 7am and 8am, with hiking until 11am or noon depending on the season and stage. The midday break is often extended due to the intense heat of the middle hours. The camels are systematically unloaded and led to grazing.

After lunch: 2 to 2.5 hours of trekking, depending on the day's stage.

Arrival at the bivouac in late afternoon, leaving the early evening free before dinner and the evening gathering.
