Water in Mauritania
The yellow fever vaccination is required for travelers coming from an infested zone and for those staying longer than 15 days. Vaccination against meningococcal meningitis A and C is recommended from 3 months of age.
Water drawn from a sealed well, located in a wadi, and regularly frequented will always be drinkable with a simple precautionary treatment (Hydroclonazone, Micropur, etc.). It can be used without concern for washing.
Dehydration
At these low latitudes, exposure to intense sun, even if the temperature is not particularly high, can cause dehydration or a more or less severe "heat stroke." There are often no warning signs, and discomfort can significantly disrupt the success of your stay, both for yourself and others. Prevention is essential; the rule is simple: minimize exposed skin to the sun, keep your head covered, drink enough. Eye protection should not be overlooked.
Thirst
When the heat becomes significant, it is important to learn to distinguish between dry mouth and actual thirst. A dry mouth is not necessarily synonymous with a physiological need for water. If you pay attention, you will notice that the body adapts and behavioral reflexes change; the need to drink decreases. Excessive water consumption, like insufficient intake, leads to dysfunctions.
