A Journey to the Land of the Moors - Jean Daragnes

In 2003, after reading The Seeker of the Absolute by renowned explorer Théodore Monod, the author embarks on his first journey into the Sahara, in Mauritanie. Since then, he has continually returned to traverse these infinite sand dunes, sculpted by the wind and endlessly fascinating to him. In this account, he shares his latest adventure with his friends Papito and Tom, along with their guide Mohamed Ould Boydya. After passing through Nouadhibou, the economic capital of the country, the four men head toward a zone worked by artisanal gold miners, then cross the erg of Azefal, home to numerous archaeological sites. Here, amid these desert landscapes, the dry, intense heat seeps everywhere, and simply sipping a drink of cool water becomes a pure and wonderful pleasure. As evening falls, when the harmattan—that famous wind of the Sahara—finally subsides, the silence and inner peace it brings envelop the hearts and souls of these men. The adventure may now begin.
