Adrar, a mountainous island surrounded on all sides by an ocean of white and ochre dunes, is one of the most fascinating regions of the Sahara.

Long overlooked by Saharan travelers, it was for many years the preferred study ground of Professor Théodore Monod during his numerous camel treks of exploration. Nestled at the heart of dark tabular plateaus, a multitude of valleys with splendid palm groves shelter the Mauritanian tribes, hospitable nomads whose white tents illuminate this mineral world.
