Our story
Détours Mauritanie Voyages was born from a deep attachment to the Saharan expanses and the hospitality of those who inhabit them. For thirty years, the agency has guided travelers who want to take time to cross this country on foot, by camel or by car, far from beaten paths.
The adventure began in 1994 in Nouakchott. Over the years, the team has developed an in-depth knowledge of the Mauritanian desert — the Adrar, the Tagant, the Banc d'Arguin — and built lasting relationships with camel guides, host families, and artisans along the routes. This on-the-ground expertise has made the agency one of the leading references in Saharan tourism in Mauritania, committed to quality, measured, and responsible travel.
Today, the agency is driven by a Franco-Mauritanian partnership. Isselmou, managing director in Nouakchott, coordinates on-the-ground operations with a team of Saharan guides and travel leaders. Alongside him, Sylvain, co-founder, designs bespoke itineraries and ensures the balance between French oversight and local expertise. Each trip is built directly, without intermediaries, with the same commitment: listen, understand, adapt.

Yes, as much as possible. Changes made more than 30 days before departure are generally free of charge (excluding hotel rate differences). As your departure approaches, some bookings become less flexible — we always inform you of your options before confirmation.
