When to visit Mauritania?
The dry season, from mid-October to late March, remains the most comfortable window for a trip to Mauritania. Days are bright, nights under canvas cool, sometimes cold in January in the Adrar where temperatures can drop near freezing. November and February offer the best conditions for trekking in the ergs, crossing the Tagant plateau or reaching Chinguetti and Ouadane. From April onwards, temperatures rise quickly and the harmattan sometimes obscures the horizon. Summer, very hot inland, is better suited to the Banc d'Arguin coast, which is more temperate. To observe migratory birds on the Aftout es Sâheli, aim for December–January.
