Choisir de partir à la rencontre des cultures et traditions de Mauritanie, c'est accepter que le voyage se calque sur le rythme du thé, des caravanes et des récits transmis sous la tente. Ici, l'hospitalité n'est pas un argument touristique : c'est une règle sociale, héritée d'un mode de vie nomade façonné par le Sahara.

Nos itinéraires culturels traversent d'abord l'Adrar, où les anciennes cités caravanières de Chinguetti et Ouadane, classées à l'UNESCO depuis 1996, abritent encore des bibliothèques manuscrites datant du XIIIᵉ siècle. À Chinguetti, septième ville sainte de l'Islam, des familles veillent toujours sur des milliers d'ouvrages de théologie, d'astronomie et de droit malékite. Plus au sud, Tichitt prolonge ce récit avec son architecture de pierre polychrome, presque oubliée.

Au-delà des villes, ce sont les gestes du quotidien qui racontent la Mauritanie. Nos guides mauritaniens organisent des rencontres simples, sans mise en scène, autour de :

  • la cérémonie des trois thés, longue et codifiée ;
  • la musique maure (ardin, tidinit) jouée par les griots iggawen ;
  • la vie en campement chez les éleveurs de chameaux de l'Adrar ;
  • les marchés de Nouakchott et d'Atar, où se croisent influences arabo-berbères et africaines.

La côte atlantique ajoute une autre couche : à Nouadhibou et au Banc d'Arguin, les pêcheurs imraguen pratiquent encore une pêche à pied collective, en collaboration avec les dauphins. C'est cette Mauritanie plurielle, désertique et océane, que notre équipe sur place vous aide à comprendre, sans la figer.
