How to choose your circuit in Mauritania?
Duration determines the scope of the trip. A 13 to 17 day format allows you to explore Adrar in depth (Atar, Chinguetti, Ouadane, Amatlich erg, Terjit guelta) with two or three days on Banc d'Arguin. To combine inner desert and rarer experiences such as Tagant, Tichitt or the mineral train, plan for 18 days or more as distances between regions easily reach 600 to 800 kilometres of track.
Beyond duration, the choice depends on your preferred pace. Some travellers prefer to settle for three nights in an oasis and hike in a star pattern, others chain bivouacs to cross the ergs. We tailor itineraries to these preferences.
Different types of circuits
Our cultural circuits explore the manuscripts of Chinguetti, life in the ksour and encounters with Imraguen communities on Banc d'Arguin. Adventure circuits focus on camel trekking, erg crossings of five to eight days and boarding the iron train. Family trips are possible from age 10 onwards, with short stages, accommodation in fixed camps at Terjit or Tergit, and adapted activities such as bathing in the guelta.
What is the best season?
The window opens mid-October and closes end of March. During these six months, daytime temperatures in Adrar average 25 to 30°C, nights cool to 8 to 12°C and require a proper sleeping bag. November, December and early January are peak season. From January to February, the harmattan can blow for a few days. From April to September, the heat (up to 47°C) makes the interior difficult, only Banc d'Arguin coast remains practicable.
